Galway’s home-grown rugby star Cathal Forde has signed a new, two-year deal with Connacht Rugby.

Connacht's preparations for a return to the URC took a positive slant this week with the news that a host of players will make their return from injury. The news comes ahead of their away fixture against Cardiff this Saturday in the Cardiff Arms Park.

Connacht are adopting a winner-takes-all approach when they host their final Investec Champions Cup pool fixture at the Galway Sportsground this evening (8pm).

Faced with the prospect of a sixth successive defeat in all competitions, Connacht overcame a New Year downpour when JJ Hanrahan’s accurate right boot saw them overcome injury-ravaged Munster in a 22-9 win at the Sportsground. The win breaks the duck of losses and boost the team ahead of next week’s Investec Champions Cup clash away to Lyons in France.

Up next for Connacht in the midst of a busy Christmas period is the arrival of French side Bordeaux-Begles to the Sportsground in the Champions Cup.

Connacht will be seeking to make it two out of two from their South African sojourn this weekend when they take on the Bulls, buoyant from defeating the Sharks 13-12 last Saturday.

Connacht suffered their first defeat of the season in a narrow three-point loss to Edinburgh at the weekend. After three wins in their opening three games Connacht sit fifth in the table, one point off the leaders Bulls who they face next weekend.
