NUI Galway has announced the appointment of Professor Alma McCarthy as the next Head of School at J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. Professor McCarthy has commenced the role as of January 2021.

The benefits of working from home are becoming more obvious to those who have been away from their office since the start of lockdown, according to a new survey released this week.

The opinions of those who are six months into working from home are being sought by the authors of a national remote working survey commissioned by the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway and the Western Development Commission.

Over half of those surveyed (51 per cent) had never worked remotely before the Covid-19 pandemic. Of those who had never worked remotely, 78 per cent would like to work remotely for some or all of the time after the crisis is over.

Researchers from the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway and the Western Development Commission (WDC) have launched a national survey to gather data on employees’ experiences of remote working in these unprecedented times. This project is being led by Professor Alma McCarthy, Professor Alan Ahearne and Dr Katerina Bohle-Carbonell at NUI Galway and Tomás Ó Síocháin and Deirdre Frost at WDC.
