Big cleanup commences for deluge-hit Clifden
Homeowners and businesses in Clifden are counting the cost this evening (Wednesday) after serious flooding hit the town early today when the Owenglin river overtopped. Schools were closed on the orders of gardai and 17 properties including homes and a hotel were evacuated as waters rose.

NUI Galway Welcomes President of Croatia during State visit
NUI Galway will tomorrow welcome President of the Republic of Croatia Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, as part of the official State visit to Ireland. The President’s visit to Galway is particularly celebratory as the city, together with Rijeka, was designated the European Capital of Culture 2020. The visit will also be an opportunity for the President to meet some of the Croatian community at the university.

Students from the NUI Galway’s Psi Chi Honour Society in psychology will host a public lecture by Professor Brian Hughes on pseudoscience in psychology next week. The lecture, entitled ‘"Trust Me, I’m a Psychologist” (Said No One Ever): Distinguishing Good Behavioural Science from Bad’, will take place on Thursday September 29 at 7pm.
