Hurlers look to get it done second time around
Brian Finn's Mayo minor hurlers did it the hard way last weekend when they pulled a dramatic draw from the jaws of defeat on two occasions to give themselves another shot at claiming the All Ireland Minor C Hurling Championship for a third year in a row. On a number of occasions Mayo looked to be dead and buried last Saturday in Ballinamore, but they dug deep when needed and a Conor Browne goal deep into overtime in extra time gave them a 3-15 to 2-18 draw against the red hand men from Tyrone.
Mayo look to complete three-in-a-row of titles
The Mayo minor hurlers contest the All Ireland Minor C Hurling final against Tyrone on Saturday in Ballinamore in Leitrim at 2.30pm. This is third year in a row that Mayo have reached this stage of the competition, winning it on both of their last two appearances in the final and beating Monaghan in both of those finals. This year it is Ulster opponents once again for Mayo with the red hand men from Tyrone standing in their way of collecting a three-in-a-row.
Mayo go looking to trim the royals
The Mayo u21 hurlers head east on Saturday as they enter unchartered waters in the All-Ireland u21B Championship with an away assignment against the Royals in Trim. Mayo have had a progressive season at U21 level this summer, having beaten both Sligo and Roscommon to claim the Connacht GAA u21B title and pick up the Hogan Couriers Cup in the process. The confidence gained from winning their first Connacht u21 title since 2006 was a major bonus to Mayo, as they then overcame Donegal in the All-Ireland quarter final in Letterkenny a fortnight ago. The Westerners came out on top by 1-14 to 1-6 in a physical encounter - the Mayo goal coming from Corey Scahill (Castlebar).
