Four Galway athletes will compete on a 35-strong Irish team in the European U18 Championships in Slovakia, taking place this week.

Conor Penney of Calasanctius College and Craughwell AC was outstanding. He smashed the Tailteann Games High Jump record with a huge 2.09 metre effort. Penney leaped up to 2.05 metres clearing all heights on his first attempt, and then set the record initially by jumping over at 2.07m and added further to it when clearing 2.09m on his second attempt for an amazing victory.

This July, accomplished marathon runner, Thomas O’Connor will compete in the Badwater135 Ultramarathon in California, which describes itself as ‘The world’s toughest foot race’, to help raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

Blackrock Health Galway Clinic has received Joint Commission International Accreditation for the sixth time. The hospital underwent a rigorous on-site survey earlier this month being assessed on the 7th Edition of the Joint Commission International standards.
