Magnificent seven for spooky Halloween ball line-up
A Halloween fancy dress ball at Garbo’s, Castlebar, on Saturday October 25, looks set to be a hit with no fewer than seven bands entertaining on the night. Bats, Shardborne, Race The Flux, New Valley Wolves, Fox Jaw, Twisted Wrath, and Hail From Russia are all taking to the stage for the frightfest ball. Garbo’s will be transformed into a Halloween fortress for the night and there is a prize of €500 up for grabs for the best fancy dress. Headline act for the night is Dublin band Bats.
Finbar Hoban Presents returns to Castlebar
Finbar Hoban Presents returns after a long dark January month next Saturday night February 6 for the first weekend of spring as the long evenings begin to draw in. This is a re-scheduled gig from November, which was postponed due to bad weather. Bats who have toured Ireland with Adebisi Shank before could well be Ireland’s best kept secret. More bands like Bats need to write songs as snappy as the opener from their first EP Cruel Sea Scientist titled ‘Death to Kent Hovind’, heck it should be made compulsory.
Bats take over Finbar Hoban presents at Bar Ritz
Dublin band Bats were formed in 2006, with the same intensity as Adebisi Shank, they could well be Ireland’s best kept secret. More bands like Bats need to write songs as snappy as the opener from their first EP Cruel Sea Scientist titled “Death to Kent Hovind”, heck it should be made compulsory. Despite the song being only just over a minute and a half long, this aggressive attack on the American’s young earth creationist does its job in portraying the incredibly black humour Bats convey in their music. Where Bats excel is in their approach to their song writing. So you get bursts of weird, almost pop, madness alongside heavier riffs and quirky, bouncy, little passages all mixed up with their unusual approach to vocals.
