An Athlone auctioneer has queried the findings of a national report claiming which claimed Westmeath house prices have dropped by 26 per cent since their peak in 2007, saying the local property market is “over the worst of it”.

According to Joe Naughton, of ERA Oates, “There’s a now greater sense that the market has bottomed-out”. He added “unlike many locations Athlone has surprisingly very little stock of new homes which makes the town a much more solid investment, providing the price is right”.
