Seven Mayo AC masters athletes competed in the National Masters Indoors Track and Field Championships last Sunday in the arena at Athlone IT. It was the second big event in the club's 2015 National calendar, having had a good contingent competing in Tuam last month in the Masters Cross Country. The first events went off at 11am and continued until 7pm - a hectic schedule due to record entries.

A number of Mayo secondary schools are standing well up the ranks of the prestigious Sunday Times guide to the top 400 schools in the country.

Mayo AC have announced details of their 2014, Move 2 Improve Race Series. The club are delighted that the new series will be sponsored by C and C Cellular, continuing their involvement with the club over the past nine years.  The Move 2 Improve Series consists of six races - four 10ks, and two 8ks. These are all independently organised events with accurately measured courses, permits from Athletics Ireland and their own prize structures.

It’s wagons east for Westport United and their loyal band of supporters on Sunday, as they look for a place in the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup. Standing in their way is the imposing figure of Sheriff YC from the capital. The hooped side from Dublin won the competition last June in the Aviva Stadium when they saw off fellow Dublin side Kilbarrack FC. They are currently sitting in third place in the AUL Premier A table in the capital, but have four games in hand on the league leaders Kilbarrack United.

Showtime is just around the corner for the students of Balla Secondary school as they prepare to stage their production of Matilda but, with their own unique twist.

The Balla Secondary School art students came joint second place in the Museum of Country life Fashion Flashback competition. The work was done in their spare time in school. They won a €40 Eason's voucher. The winners were Chloe O'Brien, Chloe Durkan, Rachel Gaughan, Rosemary Dunne, Lauren Mullaney, and Amanda Conroy. Well done also to their art teacher Ms Lisa Sherry.

The transition year class at Balla Secondary School are hosting a business networking morning in the school assembly hall on Tuesday, February 26, from 9.30am to 11am.

Balla Secondary School are looking for volunteers to take part in Stars in Your Eyes.

Parents of primary school students will note with interest Balla Secondary School’s recent announcement that they will be offering free schoolbooks to the first 50 incoming first year students in 2013.
