The emergence of regional technical colleges (RTCs) in the 1970s initiated one of the most significant developments in the history of third level education in Ireland. By bringing a strong technical orientation and widening access to higher education for citizens, the RTCs contributed significantly to economic, social, and cultural development across the country. So too did the Institutes of Technology that emerged from the RTCs in the late 1990s, with most going on to become technological universities in the late 2010s and early 2020s.

ATU to host art exhibition on Ireland’s Atlantic islands for Heritage Week

A compelling new exhibition, Echoes of the Isles, will run in Atlantic Technological University Galway city library from August 18 to 22, as part of National Heritage Week. ATU and Tuam business launch new Agri-Business Management scholarship

ATU and Tuam based business, Cormac Tagging, launched a new Agri-Business Management Scholarship in the Mountbellew campus. This initiative aims to support students entering the Agri-Business Management programme (AU 606 / AU506) in the coming academic year 2025/26. This scholarship of €3,000 provides meaningful financial support to incoming first-year students and serves to ensure students feel encouraged and supported throughout their studies at ATU.
