A conference which takes place today (Thursday) at NUI Galway, will examine ways of improving the health of young adults with Type 1 diabetes.

Diabetes Ireland, in partnership with healthcare company MSD, hosted two dedicated diabetes awareness days this month in Cooney’s Pharmacies in Moate and in The Crescent, Athlone.

For the first time in-store, Boots pharmacists across Ireland can assess a person’s risk of Type 2 diabetes. Boots Ireland has teamed up with Diabetes Ireland to offer in-store Type 2 diabetes risk assessments and pharmacists will provide personalised advice on how people can take control of their health and manage their Type 2 diabetes risk. Those found to be at high risk will be referred to their GP to have a diagnostic test.

The next meeting of the Mayo parents support group for children with diabetes will take place on Thursday September 15 at the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar, at 8pm.

On Friday February 18, free diabetes screening will take place in Tesco, Claremorris, from 2pm to 5pm.

An information booklet on the management of diabetes in pregnancy aims to promote high quality care and service to women with the condition to ensure the outcome for mother and baby matches that of non-diabetic women.
