The heritage of Galway’s agricultural and veterinary development will be celebrated and explored in-depth at the upcoming conference titled “Harvesting our Heritage.” This insightful event will take place from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, July 11, at Mountbellew Agricultural College, Mountbellew, Co Galway (H53 WE00).

Niamh Ní Chróinín, TG4’s newly appointed ambassador for children and presenter of the dedicated children’s channel Cula4 and Cllr Michael Maher, Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway will launch a bilingual workbook on Aleen Cust; the first female veterinary surgeon to work in Ireland, or indeed the world, in 1900. The book launch will take place at Mountbellew Agricultural College ATU Campus (H53WE00), on April 21 at 11am.

Celebrated American scientist, neurodiversity exponent and respected animal behaviorist Professor Temple Grandin comes to Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Mountbellew next month (11 August) to speak at the centenary conference honoring the life and work of Aleen Cust, the first woman to work as a veterinary surgeon in Ireland and Britain in the early 1900s.
