Can Portumna be stopped?
The Galway Senior Hurling Championship semi-finals are on this Sunday in Kenny Park, Athenry, with two mouth-watering clashes down for decision. First up at 2pm is Clarinbridge against Tynagh Abbey Duniry, followed at 3.45pm when Loughrea take on favourites Portumna.
Naomh Anna come up short against Cookstown
Naomh Anna, Leitir Mór, did their very best on Sunday afternoon at Pearse Park in Longford to try to reach the final of the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, but it was not to be. They have punched above their weight for most of the season on the road to county and provincial success, but last weekend they came up against a team that was just too good for them. There is no shame in that. And to their credit, they fought like real troopers right to the final whistle as they have done all season.
Hurling championship draw
Hurling champions Portumna will face Ardrahan, St Thomas, Craughwell, and Clarinbridge in next season’s Galway Senior Hurling Championship.
Ballyhaunis to step into the unknown
With the season coming to an end, there is a serious rush to squeeze in games that have to be played into a short time period and any small diversion off course can lead to problems. Ballyhaunis overcame Four Roads from Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final a couple of weeks ago and eagerly awaited their Connacht final showdown with the Galway champions. However a spanner was thrown in the works last weekend when Mellick Eyrecourt and Tynagh-Abbey Duniry drew in the Galway intermediate final. Both sides have to meet again this Saturday in the replay and then the winners turn out again the following day against Ballyhaunis in the Connacht final in Athleague at 2pm.
