Recent publicity surrounding job losses and closures throughout the county at NN Euroball, Galmoy Mines and most recently Denber Forestry Services, among others, have prompted a local business group to put what they term ‘fighting back against the downturn’ firmly on the local agenda for 2009.
Commenting on the recent negative publicity, Chairperson of Kilkenny Business Club, Eoin Hennessy expressed some concern that the publicity could distract people ‘from the business of doing business.’ The first element of the group’s campaign to ‘fight back’ is a high profile event entitled ‘Fighting Back: Survival is Success’ which will take place in the city on March 27.
The Group, which comprises over 20 local business people, has secured a roster of high profile speakers for the event and is being billed as an opportunity to learn the skills required to survive and thrive in the current market conditions, achieve business efficiencies and ultimately structure your business to cope with the challenges.
“This year we want to try to support all local businesses and help equip them with the skills necessary to survive this passing downturn, because in the current environment survival is success,” added Mr Hennessy.
“While things are changing, and there have been some high profile victims of the current downturn, there is still a vibrant indigenous business sector, trading and surviving everyday, and a determination from all of us in business to work through and reach the other side of this current downturn. ”
The event which will take place at Hotel Kilkenny will feature a number of speakers incuding international training consultant Dermot McConkey, hotelier and entrepreneur Liam Griffin, and Aer Arann CEO Paul Schütz.
All are welcome to attend the breakfast event which will start with registration at 8am. Tickets are available for €25.00 from Seamus on 086 8510358 or email seminar@kilkennybusinessclub.ie. Tickets will also be available at the event.
