The St Patrick’s Day committee is calling on people from all corners of the community to come together again this year to ensure that Kilkenny has a parade to remember.
This year organisers are looking for lots of community participation in the event and they are appealing to Kilkenny businesses to support the parade by both participating and through financial contributions.
There is a comprehensive web-site www.stpatricksdaykilkenny.com which has all the information, application forms, schedule of events etc. Support is most appreciated of the ongoing support from the business community in the city and county.
In these challenging times it’s even more important to put a bit of life into the streets and lift peoples’ spirits, and the organisers hope that business will be generous with your support.
The route is as follows:
1pm - Participants assemble on Dublin Road (near Jones Business Centre. ).
2pm - Parade Grand Marshall KCLRs Johnny Barry to lead the parade which turns left on to John Street, over Johns Bridge, Up Rose Inn Street and right at the Parade up High Street to convene at the viewing stand outside Winstons. Walking groups proceed to pick up point in Market Yard Car Park.
KCLR will be carrying out an outside broadcast between 12 - 2pm at the top of John Street. The parade will begin at 2pm with Grand Marshall Johnny Barry leading the festivities.
The Market Cross shopping centre will host The Swingin’ Bluecats band between 3pm and 4.30pm and there will be face painting for children before the parade begins.
Between 3-6pm MacDonagh Junction will host performances from Evelyn White Irish Dancing Group, the St Patrick’s Brass Band, Starlight Productions, Dancewise and O’ Loughlin Gaels U-6s and U-8s. Hand drumming performance and workshops along with face painting, balloon shaping will also take place.
