Opera enthusiasts throughout Kilkenny county and beyond can look forward to a series of operatic performances this summer which will take place against the magnificent backdrop of Kilkenny Castle.
Plans are believed to be in the final stages between Blackstairs Opera and the Office of Public Works (OPW ) to bring three operatic performances to Kilkenny Castle this July.
Blackstairs Opera, now in its eighth year in business, is renowned for bringing operatic performance to private country houses. In a new departure, the opera company is believed to be in the final stage of talks with the OPW to partner in an operatic collaboration and bring opera to Kilkenny Castle in the coming months.
It is believed that dining options in Kilkenny Castle are also being discussed to complement the operatic performances, including a pre-theatre wine reception, al fresco picnic options and a gourmet dining event inside the castle. A formal announcement with full details will take place in the coming weeks.
“Opera and heritage is a magical mix and we are very excited about the prospect of staging an opera in Kilkenny castle this summer, particularly as Kilkenny celebrates its 400th anniversary as a city”, said Jeremy Hill, chairman, Blackstairs Opera.
