Teen laid to rest following fatal collision

The victim of an horrific road traffic accident on the Callan Road on Monday morning last has been laid to rest beside his father.

Junior Cert student Patrick McDonagh (16 ) from the Johnswell Road in the city was killed after the car in which he was a back seat passenger, collided with a tree at 5.35am on Monday morning.

Patrick was a much-loved student at Kilkenny VEC where he was in third year and studying for his Junior Certificate.

His funeral mass was attended by his family and a huge support of relatives and friends at St John’s Church yesterday morning before he was removed for burial beside his dad, Francis in Bohermore in Co Galway.

The accident occurred at Cuffsgrange in county Kilkenny. The 18 year old driver was also brought to St Luke’s Hospital and was treated for minor injuries while a front seat passenger was transferred to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment for a broken back.

Patrick is survived by his mother Ann and 12 brothers and sisters.

Gardai are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 - 7775000.

In a separate accident, a woman died when her car collided with a truck at Ballyhale in Kilkenny at 7.20am on the same morning.

Nora Essan (30 ), of Ardkeen village in Waterford City, died following a two-vehicle collision which occurred at 7.15am on the Waterford side of Ballyhale village in Co Kilkenny. No one else was injured in the collision.

Gardai at Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny are investigating and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Gardai in Thomastown on 056-7754150.
