Local man showcases Kilkenny on film of the county

Many people may have noticed a group of film makers shooting on location across Kilkenny over the last week.

This crew in question were from Keo Films who were commissioned by Tourism Ireland to make a series of 10-short films showcasing the hidden gems of Ireland from a local’s perspective.

Tourism Ireland is responsible for the world-wide marketing of Ireland while London-based Keo Films are best known for their Channel 4 series “The River Cottage” starring Hugh Fearnley–Whittingstall along with producing several other “fly-on-the-wall” style documentaries.

County Kilkenny was chosen by Tourism Ireland as the location of a short film and Keo Films cast the net wide to find a suitable local individual to present the piece. to camera. Following a selection process well-known local resident, Mick Greene was given the nod for the position.

According to a spokesperson from Keo Films, Mick was chosen to present the film because the passion he conveyed for his native county differentiated him from the other candidates.

The short film was shot on location in Kilkenny city and also in Kells, Thomastown, Inistioge and Graiguenamanagh. Mick visited several places of interest including the country markets on Thursday at the Market Yard.

Throughout the film, Mick spoke extensively about the local history, characters, crafts, food, sport and music. The film will now go to post-production back at Keo Films and the piece will be available on the Tourism Ireland website in May.

A final edit of the film will appear as an advertisement for Ireland in cinemas globally.
