Frawley welcomes new litter forum but bemoans Goggin Factor

The establishment and creation of a new litter forum in Kilkenny city, that incorporates all the major social, business, and educational organisations within the borough boundaries has been welcomed by Cllr Noel Frawley.

The forum, by its own definition, hopes to gather various people based civic and educational entities within Kilkenny city and establish a coherent discussion group focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the problems associated with litter pollution. It will also explore the remedy factors needed to eradicate such antisocial behaviour.

The forum is based on a litter management plan for the city, which hopes to communicate litter related activities and discuss solutions with key members of the community, making it a partnership approach for all forum members supported by both the county and borough councils.

Kilkenny County Council’s environmental awareness officer Bernadette Moloney will chair the forum and she particularly hopes that each secondary school in Kilkenny city will take up the offer to join the forum and participate fully.

Cllr Noel Frawley said he is proud to have been elected by the borough council as its representative on the newly established forum and feels that a joint unified approach towards tackling litter by all parties, especially secondary schools, will yield dividends in the immediate future.

“It is only through dialogue, communication, and partnership on an equal level that any meaningful lasting progress can be made regarding the litter problem. Maybe the present Irish government could learn some lessons from this forum and copy some of its examples of dialogue rather than treat the working population of Ireland as mere fodder to be bullied and bled dry,” he said.

“Why prop up bankrupt banks such as of Bank of Ireland and give sanctuary to people like Brian Goggin its CEO, who presided at the realm when practices were in operation which helped run the business into the ground and crystallised a levitating attitude by giving a TV interview (embarrassing the working staff of the bank ) bemoaning the fact that he will earn below two million this year. If the Government want the people of Ireland to row in behind their recovery plans, they must first focus on the Goggin mentality factor which prevails still in that business sector,” Cllr Frawley concluded.
