The Kilkenny premiere of an amazing new animated feature film The Secret of Kells is to take place in Kilkenny’s Omniplex next week.
Made by Kilkenny animation company Cartoon Saloon, The Secret of Kells, follows the adventures, action and danger that await 12-year-old Brendan who must fight Vikings and a serpent god to find a crystal and complete the legendary Book of Kells
All will be revealed on March 3 next for a very special Kilkenny premiere screening, when the magnificent illuminated animation of The Secret of Kells (from the award-winning Director Tomm Moore and the acclaimed producers of Skunk Fu ) shines its light in the Kilkenny Omniplex to an invited audience.
After the film there will be a Q+A with the directors Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey, producer Paul Young, and art director Ross Stewart, followed by a reception at Langton’s in John Street.
All proceeds from the event will go towards Young Irish Film Makers.
The Secret of Kells is also the gala closing night film of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival where cast and crew will be gathering this Sunday. The film then sees its national cinema release on March 6.
Long time members of Young Irish Film Makers Tomm Moore with his friends Aiden Harte and Ross Stuart went to Ballyfermot to study animation. Having finished their degree they returned to Kilkenny where with the help of FAS and 10 other animators they began work on their first feature film. They worked for several years in the YIFM studios on the Waterford Road where they were joined by Ross Murray, one of the original Young Irish Film Makers members in 1991.
