Wellstone Clinic receives international accreditation

The Wellstone Clinic which provides renal dialysis care to patients with kidney problems has received international accreditation for its patient care.

The clinic based at Purcellsinch is the only satellite (non-hospital based ) clinic of its kind in Ireland to receive the accreditation.

Wellstone received the internationally recognised accreditation from the Centre for the Development of Healthcare Policy at the University of Leeds (UK ), which has been accrediting Practice Development Units (PDUs ) for over 12 years.

To acquire this endorsement, the Wellstone Clinic in Kilkenny had to consistently deliver exceptional standards of care and demonstrate an ethos, which places the patient at the centre of care. The Clinic received Stage I accreditation in late 2007. This latest achievement of Stage II accreditation is the result of over two years work to consistently deliver against 15 strict accreditation standards.

Commenting on Wellstone’s achievement of Stage II accreditation, dialysis patient Marie Coates Kavanagh of Kells, Co Kilkenny said “I have always found the service at Wellstone to be one filled with care, warmth and compassion. I receive excellent, professional care in a home from home environment, from the committed team at Wellstone Kilkenny. All of these elements were in place before the accreditation, this recognition just copperfastens how good the Clinic and its staff is.”

The Wellstone Clinic Kilkenny serves in excess of 50 renal patients in Kilkenny and Carlow.
