Quirke’s has been involved in the furniture business for long enough to know how their customers prefer to shop and buy, and appreciates how manufacturing trends, personal taste and room sized can all influence what we are currently putting in our homes.
Quirke’s Furniture has been trading in Mullinahone for close to 30 years and draws customers from neighbouring Clonmel, Thurles, and South Kilkenny and from Waterford. Regardless of the prevailing trends in our lager cities, it seems that, on a local basis at least, we are opting to buy solid pieces of furniture that have been designed to last.
When Quirke’s originally set-up in business, they imported second hand and new furniture primarily from the UK. Nowadays stock is sourced from new mass-producing manufacturing centres in China, Vietnam, South America, Indonesia and Romania. According to John, “improved ordering technology and streamlined transportation has transformed the business beyond belief. If a furniture order is placed with one of our main suppliers in Holland on a Tuesday, the container is loaded on Wednesday and we receive the delivery in Mullinahone by the end of that same week”
As well as providing turn key fit outs for investment properties, the bulk of Quirke’s Furniture business hinges on local customers who are upgrading and replacing furniture in their homes. Its web presence serves as an important, additional shop-front for the store which Quirke’s believe is invaluable for any rurally-based business.
As today’s home-owners fit into smaller and more bijoux spaces, the demand for large, heavier furniture has declined rapidly to become a far more specialised and often less lucrative, area and market.
