Shrughawadda Players, Kilmoganny present their production of The Playboy Of The Western World in St Eoghan’s Centre Kilmoganny, from Tuesday January 27 to Friday 30 at 8.30pm.
This is their fifth play and all previous productions have had outstanding success under director Michael Dowling. The play is set in Michael James Flaherty's public house in County Mayo during the early 1900s. It tells the story of Christy Mahon, a young man running away from his farm, claiming he had killed his father.
The locals are more interested in enjoying the gruesome details of his ‘tragic’ story than in condemming his murderous deed. In the meantime, he captures the heart of the feisty barmaid Pegeen Mike, the daughter of Flaherty, who falls for his heroic personality and brave persona.
The story takes off from here and Christy goes from being an iconic hero to a fumbling mess in the space of a few hours.
The Shrughawadda Players have a top class reputation for producing good drama so this show should not disappoint.
Tickets are on sale in Kilmoganny post office or at 051 648001. Book early to avoid disappointment.
