Following their popular staging of Monty Python’s Life of Brian before Christmas, Dreamstuff Youth Theatre are getting ready for itheir busiest production year ever in 2009.
Drama classes have just started for juniors (under 12 ) and take place every Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm and every Wednesday for seniors (13-18 ) from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Theatre productions developed in these classes will be staged in Dreamstuff’s premises during their open day on Saturday April 4. The senior drama production called Tales from the City will be performed at venues all around Kilkenny on Easter Saturday, April 11.
The Watergate Theatre beckons after Easter when Dreamstuff will stage a true classic of the Irish theatre, The Playboy of the Western World by John Millington Synge which will take place from Tuesday, April 28 to Saturday, May 2. 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of JM Synge and what better way to commemorate one of Irelands greatest playwrights than by staging his greatest play. Auditions for The Playboy of the Western World will be held on Tuesday, January 27 and Thursday January 28 at 7pm each night in the YIFM studios on the Waterford road.
The last weekend in June sees Dreamstuff Youth Theatre return to Rothe House to stage its Shakespeare in the House festival of plays by and about William Shakespeare. This is a follow up to last years open air productions by Dreamstuff of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth which was funded by Kilkenny Arts Office and staged in association with Rothe House. For this years festival Dreamstuff Youth Theatre will be supported by the exciting Devious Theatre Company among others. There will be Shakespeare workshops and other exciting events for children. Full details of the Shakespeare in the House programme will be available soon.
Young Irish Film Makers
For the more technical minded young people Young Irish Film Makers is running classes after school every day in camera, lighting, sound, editing, photography, portfolio preparation, web, and graphic design.
