Court Side

Last Friday night, the weekly American tournament took place in the tennis club in Archersfield, under the watchful eye of Brian Doyle. 22 players took to the courts in a competitive evening’s tennis.

There were two sections being competed in, and the results were as follows: In section 2 the runners-up were the pairing of Sharon O’Brien and Helen Connolly. Winners of that section were Helen Kearns and Caroline Loughry.

Juniors

The juniors had a very successful time at the recent open week in Leinster. Brian Reidy continued his winning ways by producing a clean sweep of victories in the Carlow open week, winning singles under-16 along with doubles and mixed titles. His winning streak continued in the Naas Open week, where he took the boys’ under-16 singles title.

Eoghan O’Connor won the under-14 singles titles in both the Naas and Carlow open weeks. His brother Ronan won the under-10s boys singles title in Carlow and reached the final of the same competition in Naas where he fell to a good young Dublin player.

Overall it has been a very good summer for our junior players in competition.

Finally, an advanced word of warning for the next senior event on the domestic calendar. The popular club championships will take place September 15 until September 27 in Kilkenny Tennis club. The closing date for this ever-popular tournament will be September 8.
