With a total of 600 cattle on offer there was a smaller cattle sale at Kilkenny Mart last Thursday.
However, the prices obtained were still quite good, with both heavy cattle and culled cows up on the previous week.
The scarcity in the number of heavy cattle on offer also contributed to the increase in the prices.
Bullocks
The bullocks weighing over 600 kg had prices ranging between €350 and €650 over their weight, while the bullocks weighing over 500 kg were sold for prices of between €300 and €470 over their weight.
Heifers
The beef heifers sold for between €350 and €520 over their weight, while the butcher heifers made between €300 and €420 over their weight. The store heifers fetched between €150 and €420 over their weight.
There was also a good number of culled cows on offer and they sold quite well, with prices up by about €20 a head on the previous week.
