Larry Cunningham to perform at country music event this weekend

Kilkenny man Pat Hayes has teamed up with country legend Larry Cunningham for a night of country music at the Watergate Theatre this Saturday.

Pat Hayes, who hails from Windgap, is celebrating 17 years in the music business this year. With three albums and several singles to his credit, Pat hopes to have his first DVD released in August on the Scottish A1 label. He regularly plays throughout Ireland, England, Scotland, and the Outer Hebrides. He also performs on the country festival scene in America and has been a regular guest to the Neville Grand Festival in the Catskills in upstate New York for many years.

Larry Cunningham needs no introduction to fans of country and Irish music. He has been entertaining people for five decades and has become a household name throughout Ireland, UK , America, and many parts of Europe. People will instantly recognise Larry for his many No 1 hits such as ‘Lovely Leitrim’, ‘Slaney Valley’, ‘The Wicklow Hills’, and of course ‘Tribute to Jim Reeves’, which was penned by Larry’s great friend, the late Eddie Masterson. A great admirer of Jim Reeves back then, Larry’s ambition to perform on stage with him become reality when Reeves visited Ireland. Another ambition was realised by Larry in 1987 when he went to Nashville and recorded two albums of his favourite songs. Larry holds the record for having the biggest crowd in the Galteemore Ballroom in London, something in the region of 6,000 people, a record he will hold for ever more as the Galteemore has recently closed its doors for good. Given that Larry has decided to cut back his live shows to just a handful each year, a visit to the Watergate Theatre on Saturday is a must for fans.

The Dreamers Band, who have been part of the Isla Grant band over the last 10 years, will also perform on the night.
