A trio of debuts for 8th One Take Sessions

Keeping up the trend of introducing more new acts to Kilkenny, the One Take Sessions returns this Thursday to Cleere's Theatre with three newcomers in the form of El Scamperino!, Walkperson and The Lions Mane (Kilkenny ) all set to take the stage along with previous guest, Michael Whelan (Wexford ).

A songwriter with “elements of folk and laid back blues”, Michael Whelan enjoyed two great performances at the One Take Sessions in 2007 and KilkennyMusic.com are delighted to welcome the Wexford native back for the first of two performances in 2008.

Whelan returned in 2007 after a three year sabbatical from performing, a move which led to a series of new songs and recordings and ‘Walk On’ topping the Newscene Radio Unsigned Charts in November 2007.

Songwriters El Scamperino! and Walkperson are currently making their way around the country on a nationwide tour for July and August, their stop in Kilkenny this week marking their One Take Sessions debut.

Sean Kangataran (El Scamperino ) has recently played places as far flung as Vienna and New York in support of his acclaimed debut ‘Growing Up’ and was named pick of the month in Hot Press.

Since launching his ‘Desired Effect’ EP in 2007 with band Walkperson, Pearse McGloughlin has been recording new band material, including the single ‘Lobsters’, as well as working on a solo project. Known for his impassioned performances, McGloughlin will play songs from his upcoming solo album, ‘Busy Whisper’, due for release in 2009.

As many acts have done over the past two years, The Lion’s Mane (Kilkenny ) will be using the One Take Sessions this week as a warm up for their debut full band performance in Cleere's on Saturday, August 16.

Drawing influence from bands such as Tool, the group have crafted songs featuring a range of emotions, excellently displayed in tracks such as ‘Buddha’, ‘Leaf’, ‘The Dragon’s Breath’ and the recently release ‘Pull It Out’.

On the downside, KilkennyMusic.com have announced that the One Take Sessions planned for August 21 has been cancelled and the popular series will return with Joe Cleere on September 11.

All gigs are free of charge and the first band takes to the stage at 9.30 pm.
