Are you looking for ways to blow away the cobwebs and work off the Christmas Day excesses?
Then why not join a local community group for a fund-raising St Stephen’s Day walk for charity.
A large attendance is expected for the annual North-West Kilkenny Rural Development Association ‘St Stephen’s Day Charity Walk’, that will take place from the village of Gathabawn at noon on Friday, December 26.
Funds that are raised from this year’s charity event will go jointly to the local Susie Long Hospice Fund, and to Laois-based African development agency Self Help Africa.
North-West Kilkenny RDA’s annual charity walk in Gathabawn traditionally attracts large numbers each year, and the organisers are optimistic that this year will be no exception.
‘It’s a great way for people to get out and about for a walk with their families and friends after the Christmas festivities, and at the same time provides people with an opportunity to do something very worthwhile for charity’, an RDA spokesman said.
The Susie Long Hospice Fund is campaigning to provide a new 10-bed hospice for the people of Kilkenny and surrounding counties. The fund was set up in memory of Susie Long, who lost her brave fight against cancer just over a year ago.
Self Help Africa is an Irish agency that is involved in promoting and implementing long-term development projects in nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The organization works with the rural poor, supporting communities so that they can grow enough food and earn a sustainable living.
