2009 is kicking off with a bang as Kilkenny audiences are to be treated to an electric musical extravaganza with Sharon Shannon and friends.
They are calling it the greatest show on earth this festive season.
Clocking in at a staggering three hours of music, catch Sharon Shannon and her big band with Shane MacGowan, Mundy and Dessie O’Halloran at Cillin Hill.
This fantastic show will make you forget the doom and gloom and give you the best night’s entertainment and value for money you can get during Christmas and lift your spirits through January. You will hear ‘Galway Girl’ in all its glory and the Best Christmas Song in the world ‘Fairytale of New York’.
Sharon Shannon began her solo recording career in 1989. Over the years, she has recorded with many artists including The Waterboys, Steve Earle, Liam O Maonlai, Kirsty McColl and Sinead O’Connor on albums such as ‘Libertango’ (2003 ) and ‘The Diamond Mountain Sessions’ (2000 ). She is currently working on a new album of tunes for full concert orchestra arrangements and is due to release a new studio album with a number of other artists in 2009.
Sharon is currently writing an album of traditional tunes for full concert orchestra arrangement. She is also working on a new album with guest singers to be released in 2009. Sharon’s recent collaboration with Irish rock singer Mundy on the Steve Earle penned ‘The Galway Girl’ was in the top 5 in the Irish charts for over three months, and is currently being used by Bulmers Cider for their latest TV commercial. Sharon’s current album ‘The Galway Girl’ has attained triple platinum status in Ireland.
Shane Mac Gowan is making appearances all over TV this Christmas. On Christmas Day, he appears in Ireland’s best loved soap 'Fair City' on RTE while on TG4 he appears with Mundy and Sharon Shannon and her big band on Geantrai. On Stephen’s Day, Shane appears on a Late Late Show special tribute to the late Joe Dolan.
