What do you get the sports-mad person for Christmas when you know they have all the memorabilia that is available to date. Well how about a beautiful coffee table book entitled ‘A Season of Sundays.’
GAA President Nickey Brennan has launched the 12th edition of every GAA fan's photographic bible - the 2008 Season of Sundays. An invaluable pictorial document of the season just gone, the Sportsfile photographers have captured every high and low, the drama, joy and sadness that make the GAA year unique.
The images within the book will strike a chord with sports’ fans the length and breadth of the country. Carlow fans will enjoy the image on page 13 of James Ryan sitting with his back to the window during a half time break in the game between Carlow and Kilkenny in the O’Byrne Cup. Carlow would go on to beat the cats on that cold winter’s day in January in Dr Cullen Park.
But the honour of adorning the cover of the 2008 edition of the book goes to a Croke Park swamped by a sea of black and gold as Killkenny fans swarm the pitch while in the distance stands a beaming Cha Fitzpatrick as he raises Liam MacCarthy and celebrates the Cat's coveted three-in-a-row.
Speaking at the launch, Sportsfile's Ray McManus said "We aim not only to document the great moments of the GAA year on the pitch, but also to give a sense of everything that makes up the GAA world, that makes our national games so much a part of the fabric of Irish life"
GAA President, Nickey Brennan said that, "Since it was first published in 1997, the 'Season of Sundays' collection has gone from strength to strength and is now a must-have for all GAA fans'.
‘A Season of Sundays’ 2008 is an official GAA publication, and is available in all leading bookstores priced €34.95.
