Shop local says the IFA

The Alliance of National Organisations is continuing to promote its ‘Go Local’ campaign. And next week the initiative, which is being co-ordinated by the countryside the rural affairs wing of the IFA, is organising a major information and activity campaign throughout the country.

John Bryan, the IFA chairman in Kilkenny, at the county launch encouraged farm families and rural homes to get actively involved.

“It is essential that people realise that by buying Irish and shopping locally every week, they are supporting their neighbours, friends and families which all leads to a more vibrant community,” he said.

Mr Bryan also said that supermarket groups “must also play their part and be seen to support both local and Irish produce and to be playing fair with their suppliers so that they can also stay in business.”

He also emphasised the importance of local services and organisations to rural economics. “These services cannot be underestimated in terms of community support social interaction and job creation,” he commented.

Mr Bryan concluded by saying that he was “looking forward to working with local post offices, GAA clubs, pubs, churches, and shops in communicating the Go Local message during this campaign.”
