Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to highlight important issues in relation to south county Kilkenny or the lack of as the case may well be in certain southern towns and villages in this area of the county. The issue of Garda and fire services in south Kilkenny is very much in high demand right across the entire south of the county as is employment services, the entire southern area is left without a single library headquarters and people's only viable alternative to avail of a library service on a full time basis is to travel to either Thomastown, Callan or indeed Graiguenamanagh depending which of the three towns are closest to you.
The importance of health centres and public transport in many southern towns and villages are also left out in the cold with many villages only having part time GP services and part time bus services, the village of Kilmacow is a prime example of this as it only has a ONE day week CIE bus service along with the rural service ring-a-link. My question is this, has the 'Celtic Tiger', been seen every where? I don't think so let us no longer be fooled.
This is complete and utter madness and bad planning at its very best from the people in charge down at county hall in Kilkenny city. The entire southern region has relied on such services from neighbouring Co Waterford for the simple things in life for way to long, ie, employment, emergency services and education and the majority of cash from the 'Celtic Tiger' days are no where to be had it would appear. Oh what a wonderful team we have in local and national government. When are these folk finally going to wake up and give south county Kilkenny and all of the county its just desserts. We have heard enough of the talking - it’s about time we now see a fair and balanced delivery of services for all areas in both county Kilkenny and indeed Kilkenny city, need I say more.
Yours sincerely,
Jason Costigan
