Labour conference to bring €3 million to Kilkenny — Ó hArgáin

Cllr Seán Ó hArgáin, has said that this weekend’s first Labour Party conference in Kilkenny represents a major boost to the city’s economy.

It is estimated that the conference with more than 700 delegates will be worth in the region of €3 million to the local economy. The conference will take place in Hotel Kilkenny from this Friday to Sunday. Cllr Ó hArgáin will also speak live on national television as part of the televised section of the conference on Saturday when he will address the serious cutbacks in education, and he will also represent the constituency at a joint parliamentary party/national executive meeting on Friday night.

He also welcomed the special long service awards which will be presented to local party members by leader Eamon Gilmore TD on Saturday. They are Willie Hayes of Borris, Co Carlow, Paddy Dowd of Coon, Sadie Kelly and Peggy Kerwick of Kilkenny city and John Bolger of Graiguenamanagh, whom he said have given a lifetime of commitment to the Labour movement.

Cllr Ó hArgáin described the decision as a major boost for the party in Carlow/Kilkenny.
