New golf academy putts the hole in one

Good news for everyone with aim or swing issues on the greens — a professional and sympathetic tutoring programme is now available in Carlow.

The highly successful Brendan McDaid Golf Academy in Rathsallagh Golf Club and Athy Driving Range has now opened in the Carlow Golf Range, Springhill, Graiguecullen.

The very well respected McDaid, head professional and European golf tour coach, is often referred to as ‘Dr Golf’ and is regarded by many to be one of the country’s leading coaches. His franchise has trained some of the top golfers in Irish golf today including Peter Lawrie, Colm Moriarty, and Carlow’s own Tara Delaney, Aideen Murphy and Karen Delaney.

Now you can get some of that magic locally weekdays from 10am to 9pm and 9am to 6pm weekends. Two PGA golf professionals, Corkonian Stephen Hayes and Brendan’s brother Paul McDaid, will be on hand to provide individual, group and junior coaching. Stephen’s superb teaching manner can bring good swing to even the most green of golf novices and can quietly but firmly teach old pros a new trick or two.

With a terrific teaching morning offered on Monday and Wednesday exclusively for women, the academy has already climbed the social diary calendar locally and is busy each week with novice and veteran lady golfers finding a new way to do morning coffee (offered free with the €15 charge for the one hour lessons from 10.30am ).

Golf classes take place on Fridays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm for €15 per person.

There are also plenty of programmes for young golf enthusiasts, and with a shop on site offering first class repair and custom fittings on an extensive range of leading brands, everything for a good golf game is available at Carlow Golf Range
