Fined for near collision with oncoming vehicle

A 24-year-old man who had to slam on his breaks to avoid his tractor and trailer colliding with an oncoming car received a €150 fine at Kilkenny District Court on Monday.

Andrew Ireland, with an address at Ballyda, Danesfort, Co Kilkenny pleaded guilty to driving without reasonable consideration at Ballywalters, Callan, Co Kilkenny on November 27, 2007.

“As he was travelling in his tractor along a narrow bend in the road the defendant had to break violently to avoid a collision with an oncoming car,” Inspector Aidan Brennan told the court.

The inspector added that both drivers were in shock, “after the trailer attached to the tractor attempted to jackknife, but ultimately didn't.”
