Tinryland toil to better village

A lot of very good work is going on in Tinryland. And it’s all down to some very hardworking people.

Agreement has been reached in principle between Tinryland Tidy Town Committee and Tinteán Voluntary Housing Association to transfer a portion of lands to Tinteán to develop a community centre. Tinteán is expecting to shortly lodge a planning application to build 50 houses and the community centre in Tinryland. Those 50 houses will be an extra relief to Tinryland, a village needing the benefit of more residents.

Carlow County Council is also to provide 10 affordable houses. Tinteán will build the development, own it and manage it via a local committee. Meanwhile, not resting on their laurels, the committee have already started work on the refurbishment and re-roofing of the old school building.

“This work is being undertaken by a very hard working tidy towns committee in conjunction with Carlow County Council,” said local Labour councillor Jim Townsend.

“It is a pleasure for me as a public representative to work with such a hard working committee and liaise with the council on their behalf,” he said. The committee, chaired by Parish Priest Fr John McEvoy, secretary Trudie Shannon and treasurer Jim Deane, will continue their work into the New Year.

The council meanwhile will shepherd in the first phase of a three year programme shortly that will see all of the footpaths in St Joseph’s Terrace replaced.

There will also be safety making works carried out at McArdle’s Cross, more bins brought to the village and an extra light will make church goers feel better in the long winter nights all courtesy of the council.
