‘George Clooney’ coming to a theatre near you

Local man David Glendon, now internationally recognised as the internet’s most famous George Clooney lookalike, is coming to a stage near you.

The Kilkenny actor will bring his new play From the Ashes to Cleere’s Theatre at the end of this month. Mr Glendon’s new-found celebrity status is bound to draw a crowd.

The 27-year-old became an internet sensation last week, when the story of his victory in a George Clooney lookalike competition went viral. The fact that he bears no resemblance to the Hollywood icon spawned huge interest from new media commentators.

One version of the story, on popular US website Gawker, has received over 145,000 Facebook ‘likes’.

Comments from users on various websites and blogs ranged from witty remarks, to tongue-in-cheek congratulations, to outright hostility and bitterness.

The judging of the competition also came in for heavy-handed irony and criticism, with some commenters wondering exactly what the criteria were, and whether or not much alcohol had been consumed, as the event was held in a whiskey bar.
