Kilkenny Labour TD Ann Phelan welcomed the 2012 maintenance and improvement grants announced this week for Carlow and Kilkenny.
Kilkenny County Council has received a total of €9.9m while Kilkenny Borough Council received €419,000.
Deputy Phelan particularly welcomed the news that the grants provided through the NRA guarantee that surface dressing will match the 2011 allocation.
Additionally, restoration and improvement grants are provided to county councils with an increase of €15m nationally over last year, plus the extra €60m which was allocated under the Jobs Initiative.
The block grants made available directly to Carlow Town Council and Kilkenny Borough Council have been preserved at 2011 levels. Urban authorities have been given greater flexibility under this grant category and have full discretion in the selection of roads where work is being undertaken.
