A man who was arrested for questioning following a serious assault in the city on Saturday night last has been released without charge.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning, on Michael St in the city. The incident involved a young man in his twenties. He is understood to be from Castlecomer in County Kilkenny. The injured man was hit by a car on John Street at approximately 2.45am.
Gardaí believe the car followed the man down Michael Street and an altercation took place. It is believed that the man fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement, sustaining a serious fracture to his head.
The victim was brought to Saint Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny, where he is being treated for head injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition.
A 19-year-old man who was questioned at Kilkenny Garda Station has been released without charge. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
