Fennelly heads off to the ‘Alley’
Former Kilkenny senior hurling manager Kevin Fennelly has been appointed the new bainisteoir for Wexford club Buffers Alley.
The Poc Fada Bar proprietor in Rose Inn Street will attempt to bring the glory days back to the only Wexford club to win the All-Ireland club title. The ‘Alley’ have been a top four team in the Model County in recent years, but they have failed to break the dominance of Oulart-the-Ballagh who have won the last three titles.
The Rower-Inistioge gain and lose
It’s a case of gain one and lose one for the Rower-Inistioge for the 2012 season.
The southern club will have the services of John James Kenny for the 2012 campaign. The hard-working midfielder/forward returned to his native parish last autumn but he was not eligible to play in the championship, however this year the current intermediate league champions will have the services of the talented Kenny for a tilt at the championship in 2012.
The addition of John James Kenny back into the Rower-Inistioge ranks is offset by the upcoming loss of their towering full back and four-time All-Ireland medal winner Seán Cummins. He will depart his native parish in the middle of 2012.
The brilliant Cummins is heading off to Australia on a two-year study of global agriculture. The 6’4” defender should be available for the opening three league games before he departs.
All-Ireland junior club final tickets
Next Saturday, February 11, sees the conclusion of the All-Ireland junior series when St Patrick’s Ballyragget take on Cork side Charleville.
The match starts at 5.30 in Croke Park, and tickets are €20 for adults, €10 for OAPs or students, and €5 juveniles.
Tickets can be purchased online through www.gaa.ie and www.tickets.ie. On match day, tickets can be purchased from ticket outlets located around the ground.
GAA bible on county website
The latest version of the Kilkenny GAA bible with all the available records updated to December 31, 2011 is now published on the county website.
This valuable resource of results, winning teams, All Stars, referees, officers, club colours and crests in hurling, football, camogie, and handball is the most up to date county publication of its type in the country. Included in the ‘bible’ for the first time are the ladies’ football results from senior grade down to the primary schools finals, along with the county officials.
Having grown substantially since its first publication in 1999, the latest version – compiled by Gerry O’Neill – contains more than 500 pages and has been split in two parts for local Kilkenny details and records at national level.
