A 20 year-old man escaped a four month prison sentence for assaulting another man.
Michael Walsh, 47 Woodview, Freshford pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place at The Square in Freshford on October 22, 2007.
Judge William Haughton imposed a Community Service Order for 120 hours in lieu of four month’s detention.
Inspector Liam Connolly told Castlecomer District Court on Monday that the defendant was involved in an altercation with another man punching him twice in the face.
The injured party suffered bruising under the right eye and had difficulty breathing through his nose. He was subsequently taken to the doctor for treatment for his injuries.
Solicitor for the defendant Eugene O’Sullivan said that drink was a factor in his client’s behaviour.
“He has since completed an anger management course and did plead guilty to the matter,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
