Dicksboro GAA news

Season’s greetings

The executive committee of Dicksboro GAA Club would like to wish all members, their families, supporters and sponsors – especially main sponsors Grassland Fertiliser (adult teams ) and Aut Even Hospital (juvenile and under-21 teams ) – a very happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

Under-16 football

The 2010 Roinn A football final was played last Sunday in Thomastown, with Glenmore providing the opposition.

Glenmore were certainly the hungrier team on the day and their desire for silverware made them comfortable enough winners in the end. The Boro team have already won the Roinn A hurling and football championships in 2011, and so can still look back on 2011 as being a very successful year.

Stocking Filler

If you are looking for that last minute stocking filler, why not consider Up the Boro: Dicksboro GAA Club 1909-2009, centenary book?

At €20, it would make an ideal gift for any Dicksboro supporter, past or present. Contact Edmund Nolan 086-8773615 for a copy.

Shem Tynan steps down

After many years as Dicksboro’s county board delegate, Shem Tynan stepped down at the recent club AGM.

Chairman Eddie Holohan led the praises and thanks for all his service and these were also echoed from the floor. Jim Murphy will now be the Boro’s new delegate.

First aid course

It is hoped to run an occupational first aid course, which is a FETAC Level 5 course, early in the New Year in Palmerstown for Dicksboro team mentors.

It should be remembered that every age group from under-6 to senior must have a first aider and this is an ideal opportunity to get trained up to a high level with no cost to you. The course will be run over five/six weeks, one night a week for four hours per night. Contact Edmund Nolan on 086-8773615 soon if you are interested, as half the spaces on the course are already allocated.

Sympathies

It is with deep regret that we learned of the recent passing of two of Dicksboro's great past players.

Eamonn Hennessy was a member of the 1950 County Championship winning team and is survived by his wife Nellie, while Andy Heffernan also played for the Boro throughout the 1950s and was still attending games up to a few months ago. Andy is survived by his wife Ann.

The executive and members of Dicksboro GAA Club wish to extend their sympathies to their wives and families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anamacha dílis.
