It has been some season for Ballyragget.
Fresh from their Northern u-21 title victory last Sunday, and with the club still in buoyant mood following their earlier Leinster club junior championship, it must have been a serious challenge for this team of young men to focus themselves and deliver another big performance.
Apparently not. St Patrick’s have been the in-form club this season, and Sunday was no different.
We are now playing December hurling, and certainly the weather does not improve things at this late stage in the year, but the quality of hurling was good nonetheless.
It was their first victory in the Roinn A hurling championship final, and a victory over the holders – Mooncoin – no less.
A frozen Nowlan Park was the venue, and those in attendance were treated to a fine spectacle of hurling, following an early throw-in.
In the end, the margin of victory was 2-11 to 0-10. Ballyragget worked incredibly hard in the middle of the park throughout the afternoon, and a number of players such as Bill Staunton, Robbie Healy, and usual suspect Kevin Kelly, were outstanding.
It is another well deserved title for the St Patrick’s men, and more are sure to follow.
The Roinn A game was preceded by the Roinn B county final, where Piltown narrowly scored a 0-15 to 1-11 victory over Emeralds.
