Kilkenny hurler Michael Fennelly was one of eight Irish sport stars to win a Texaco Sportstars of the Year Award this year.
Other winners were Darren Clarke (golf ), Kevin O’Brien (cricket ), Alan Brogan (Gaelic football ), Willie Mullins (horse racing ), John Joe Nevin (boxing ), Sean O’Brien (rugby ), and Richard Dunne (soccer ).
The Texaco Young Sportstar Award was presented to 16-year old swimmer Sycerika McMahon while the Hall of Fame Award went to legendary Kerry footballer Pat Spillane.
