A great charity hero is crowned for Kilkenny

Kilkenny man Eamon Cleere has shown true giving spirit following his win as Ireland’s Charity Hero at the prestigious Better Together Awards. Eamon has been described as a Man in a million. He received this prestigious award in November and received €1,000 to donate to a charity of his choice.

Eamon has worked with Enable Ireland Kilkenny for the past 25 years and has raised €1.5 million for the charity. Eamon describes his work as ‘a labour of love’ as he and his wife Margaret thought they would never see their son walk when he was born. They turned to Enable Ireland Kilkenny and the centre has done untold work with their son and lots of other boys and girls over the years.

They then decided to dedicate their time and love to Enable Ireland Kilkenny to give back to the charity that supported them down through the years.

Eamon has carried out many different fundraising events such as the ever popular Rockfall festival, which is in its 23rd year, and the Floodlit football league which is in its 13th year.

Ireland’s Charity Hero Award — Better Together Campaign was developed by The Wheel, which is the National Representative body for community and voluntary groups. A panel of independent judges then cast their deciding votes.

Launched in October, the Better Together campaign also invited charities, clubs and associations to compete for a combined prize fund of €20,000, by creating short online videos to showcase their work and attract new supporters, volunteers and donors.
