Shefflin is new Shamrocks’ boss

Tommy Shefflin is the new manager of Ballyhale Shamrocks, taking over from Michael Fennelly who stepped down following the county final defeat to James Stephens.

Shefflin had two good years in charge of Glenmore and he will be a popular choice in the club. His selectors are Patrick O’Sullivan, who did a stint with Maurice Aylward when Shamrocks won the All-Ireland Club title in 2007, Michael Kelly, and John Drennan.

Gleeson linked with St Lachtain’s

Gortnahoe’s Martin Gleeson has been linked with the trainer’s job at St Lachtain’s Freshford.

Gleeson who has been a very successful coach with Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown has been involved with the Fenians Johstown for the past two seasons.

Roche leaves Graigue Ballycallan

Declan Roche has stepped down as Graigue Ballycallan coach after one year.

The popular Callan man steered the club to the county championship quarter-finals after finding themselves, rather unluckily, involved in a first round/relegation semi-final. Graigue had a deserved win over neighbours Tullaroan in the championship.

Kilkenny players with Robert Emmet’s

Three Kilkenny players are on the Robert Emmet’s squad to take on the Carlow and Leinster champions in the All Ireland Intermediate Club semi-final in mid January.

Conahy’s Brian Healy plays in defence while Eddie Brennan of Castlecomer is in the attack and Danesfort’s Jason Cody is on the panel.

Brennan undecided on future

Star forward Eddie Brennan has yet to make a decision on his future in the black and amber jersey.

The Graigue-Ballycallan man, who won an eighth All-Ireland Championship with the Cats this year, is currently undecided on his future at inter-county level.

In an interview with the Irish Independent, the 33-year-old said he would have to talk to Brian Cody before making any decision.

“It's a huge part of your life when you're involved in hurling and it's hard to walk away from that. You're putting in three or four nights a week and it's a family away from your family,” he said.

“I would have said at the start of the year, if we could win it, it would be a great way to sign off. But I'll have a think about it. The family have to come into it now.”
