The Dylan has the ‘Best Snug’ in Leinster

Kilkenny's Dylan Whisky Bar is home to Leinster's Best Snug, having topped the regional poll in the public vote as part of the Powers Whiskey Ireland's Best Snug 2011 competition.

Over 70 pubs were shortlisted for the contest which saw the public cast votes for their favourite pub snugs throughout October.

Having won the Leinster title, the Dylan Whisky Bar will now join the other regional finalists — The Brian Boru, Dublin, Baily's Corner, Tralee and O'Connors, Ballisodare — in vying it out for the All-Ireland title, Powers Ireland's Best Snug 2011.

The overall winner will be chosen by a specially convened judging committee, with the winner announced on November 15.

The Dylan Whisky Bar on John Street, is an old Victorian-style bar with an ever growing whiskey library containing nearly 100 of the world's finest. Open turf fires, walls adorned with whiskey mirrors, old advertising and Bob Dylan memorabilia along with its cosy snug all add to the pub's unique character and warm, cosy atmosphere. Seating ten but transforming into two cosy snugs when the occasion calls, The Dylan's snug is a must see, featuring half doors, drink hatches, hinged privacy screens, nosey street lookouts and candle-lit lanterns.

Speaking about the search, competition judge Emma Donnellan, marketing director Ireland at Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard said: “Congratulations to Kilkenny's Dylan Whisky Bar at this stage in the competition and on winning the Leinster title."

Emma Donnellan will be joined around the judging table by Frank Cronin, Newstalk 106-108fm CEO and Turtle Bunbury, writer and historian, who will consider each of the regional snug finalists and their unique characteristics before deciding on the All-Ireland winner.

The national winner, chosen by the judging committee will be announced on November 15.
