In preparation for 2012’s “European Year of Active Aging”, an innovative new seminar has been organised to explore ways to ensure that older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT ) people have the best possible opportunities for living a positive and active life.
A seminar to discuss these and other issues will take place on Wednesday, November 9, from 10am to 2pm in Langton’s Hotel, John Street, Kilkenny.
Many older LGBT people in Ireland grew up in a time when being open about their sexuality was almost impossible, and it remains difficult for many. As a result, older members of the LGBT community are more at risk of becoming lonely and isolated in their old age.
An exciting panel of speakers will take part in the seminar and, through inspiring presentations, will explore ideas for the best ways forward.
This seminar is the first in a series of events organised by LGBT Diversity to mark the European Year of Active Aging and highlight issues facing the older LGBT community. LGBT Diversity is a coordinated national response by twelve LGBT organisations to develop the capacity of the LGBT sector. It facilitates organisations and activists to collectively mobilise and engage with the LGBT community and wider society in order to advocate strategically and effectively on gender identity and sexual orientation issues.
For further information on the seminar and to reserve your place please contact LGBT Diversity via berni@lgbtdiversity.com. Participation is free – but places are limited.
