Boost for tourism as Indian group visits Kilkenny

Tour operators from India visited Kilkenny last week, as part of a fact-finding trip to Ireland.

Invited here by Tourism Ireland in Mumbai, the tour operators were here to experience at first-hand what the Marble City has to offer Indian holidaymakers. The aim of the trip was to encourage the visiting operators to feature Kilkenny and Ireland as a new destination in their programmes or to extend the Irish content of their existing programmes.

The operators began their visit to Kilkenny with a guided tour of the castle, followed by a walking tour around the city. They dined at Kyteler’s Inn, where they were also treated to an enjoyable ‘bodhrán experience’ with Helen McLoughlin. The group spent the night in Hotel Kilkenny.

“Tourism Ireland is delighted to bring these influential tour operators to Kilkenny, so they can experience for themselves the high standard and variety of the tourism product on offer in this part of Ireland for Indian holidaymakers,” said Amanda Burns, Tourism Ireland’s Asia manager.

“Tourism Ireland in India is working hard to raise the profile of the island of Ireland as a premier holiday destination, highlighting the visa waiver scheme introduced by the Government earlier this year, which has made it easier for tourists from emerging tourism markets to visit Ireland.”
