Kilkenny Triathlon website takes gold

Kilkenny Triathlon Club has added yet another success story to its recent good run of form.

The club’s website scooped the top prize in the Best Sports Website category at the Irish Web Awards, held last weekend at the Mansion House in Dublin.

The club had some stiff competition from the websites of other sporting organisations, including the GAA, The Score, Sports News Ireland, as well as last year’s winner – Irish Pro Cycling.

Ray Lonergan, who himself is a triathlete, is the club’s website manager. Together with code writer JJ Murphy from Kilkenny company CloveRock, Mr Lonergan designed and built the website for the club.

He accepted the Web Award in the Mansion House, at a ceremony attended by a wide selection of Ireland’s companies and organisations.

“The night itself is very laid back – there’s a real festival atmosphere,” Mr Lonergan told the Kilkenny Advertiser.

“There were 26 different awards for various categories like Most Innovative, Most Beautiful, Best Sports Website, or Best Arts Website.”

Mr Lonergan said that, given the calibre of opposition, he was surprised to land the top prize.

“Looking at the competition, we were delighted just to be shortlisted,” he said.

“And then Rick O’ Shea said, ‘Kilkenny Triathlon Club’.”

The Kilkenny Triathlon Club, which was only established in January of this year, already has over 100 members who train and compete together at the various Triathlon events which take place around the country. New members are always welcome.
